This is a Tunnels and Trolls adventure in the Castle Calahony series.
During the evenings the wizards have time to cast spells at the weapons of the others. Note that the entire march takes 3 weeks, while the wizards need the first week to learn a spell. So a wizard has at most 14 evenings to prepare the weapons for future use. The days are spent in marching, foraging, making up camp and other duties. A wizard needs one evening to cast one first level spell. He needs two evenings to cast a spell at level 2. And so on.
Example:
Your group has 3 fighters, Knownot the human, Killall the dwarf and
Dumby the hobbit.
It has 2 wizards, Blastit the elf with a power of 13, and SunnyDew
the leprechaun with a power of 19.
Blastit learns the Light Up spell, costing 200 Gps. He takes a loan
of 30 Gps from each of the 3 warriors, and forks out an additional 110
GPs from his own pocket.
SunnyDew learns the Vorpal Babe spell, also costing 200 Gps. He takes
a loan of 40 Gps from each of the 3 fighters, and pays down 80 GPs himself.
They have 14 evenings available. Blastit casts a 3rd level
Light Up on the 3 swords. A 3rd level Light Up costs him 3 evenings.
He can prepare 4 swords and has 2 evenings left.
SunnyDew prepares these same 4 swords with a 3rd level Vorpal
Babe. The 3rd level spell costs him 3 * 4 + 2 - 1 = 13 power
points. He has enough strength to cast such a spell, and it takes him 3*4=
12 evenings to prepare these swords.
On request of the owners, the magic words are "Now Go Babe!" for Knownot, "Kill them all" for Killall, and "Now its Time To Show Your Worst" for the hobbit's sword. SunnyDew also needs 12 evenings, as remarked above, and spends the remaining 2 evenings to store an additional 1rst level Vorpal Babe in the swords of Knownot and Dumby. These cost him only 3 - 1 = 3 power points, and need the words of Power "Now two!" and "Do your worst again!".
Blastit sees his debt of 3 * 30 Gps deminished with 3 * 26 Gps. SunnyDew has 26 Gps subtracted his debt to Killall, and 26 + 3 from his debt to Dumby and Knownot.
Dumby's sword has 3 spells stored:
[Tip 1: To speed up things, have your characters pool resources. Relieving yourself of the detailed bookkeeping saves you a lot of time. At the end of the adventure, distribute all possessions fairly among the characters.
Tip 2: To speed things up even more, for each of your wizards, calculate
the highest level he can cast the spell you want him to prepare weapons
with.
Divide the number of evenings (14) by this number.
Example: Trull the orc can cast the Vorpal babe spell at second level.
This requires him 2 evenings per sword. So he can prepare 7 swords.
Make a small file in notepad saying:
7x:
1L2 Vorpal Babe.
(This means there is 1 level 2 Vorpal Babe in this sword)
If your second wizard is Daisy the Leprechaun, and he can only cast
a Level 1 Light Up, he will be able to prepare 14 swords with a L1 Light
Up. As you probably have a maximum of 8 swords in your company, you expand
your note file:
7x:
1L2 Vorpal Babe.
1L1 Light Up
1x:
1L1 Light Up
Tip 3: The easiest way is if you store your characters sheets electronically.
Now use Copy and Paste to Paste the
1L2 Vorpal Babe.
1L1 Light Up
behind 7 of the swords of your characters.
lastly, add the last line:
1L1 Light Up
to the description of the sword of your eighth warrior.
