This is a Tunnels and Trolls adventure in the Castle Calahony series.
The T&T adventures in the Castle Calahony series use a system for acquiring skill points in the use of certain weapons.
Skill points can be acquired through combat or through training, and represent the skill the individual has acquired in the handling of a weapon type. Thus skill points are awarded separately for axes and for swords, and again separately for straight swords and for curved swords.
Skill points entitle a character to a skill bonus. The skill bonus depends on the skill points acquired, and is listed in this table:
| Skill points | bonus |
| 0 | 0 |
| 1-999 | +1 |
| 1000-2999 | +2 |
| 3000-6999 | +3 |
| and so on | |
The bonusses listed above are cumulative, and correspond to normal character levels. In this way, skill points allow a player to have a character to be very dexterous with the sword (skill bonus acts as a dex-modifier) but without having him picking a lock with ease.
As soon as he had any training, as character gets a +1 modifier. As soon as he has reached 1000 points, he gets another +2 skill modifier, bringing his skill bonus up to +3 for that weapon. Because the skill bonus acts as a dexterity modifier, characters can use training to handle a sword for which they would have indufficient dexterity to handle them without.
Please note that being handy with a spear does not make a character super hero with the axe or with the bow.
However, a character who has acquired some skill with a weapon, has a headstart when starting to practice with a similar weapon. So someone well trainend in the use of the javelin, may apply 50% of his skill points when throwing a pilum.
Skill points may be acquired through training and through battle. While
you are in an adventure, you will ususally meet someone with a higher skill
level who can teach you a bit. Watch out for chances to train. When you
have fought a foe, and defeated him, you receive the sum of his attributes
as skill points. This applies independant of wether you kill him, or send
send him running. For monsters with a monster rating, add 60 to his monster
rating and award your self that many skillpoints. Thus a colossal bear
with a MR40 will yield you 100 skill points.
For missiles, sum up the dice of your saving roll.
When several persons fought one foe, they have to share these skill points. When a person fought with two weapons, say a dirk and a kukri, he receives these points for both weapons.
Example: John and jack fought a sluggoth monster with a MR40. This gives them 100 skill points, making 50 each. John fought with a bludgeon, and receives 50 points for the bludgeon. Jack fought with a dirk and a kukri, and he receives an extra 50 skill points for his dirk and another 50 points for his kukri.
