in the YeastMonth of Year 2976 of the third era, twentieth year of the reign of King Meteg Trophar, King of the Hills, Guardian of Liberty and Freedom, Shielder of the faith of Midhras, Threefold Victor on the plains of Madras.
In the YeastMonth assembled all the wizards of the Council of Guardians, before King Meteg Trophar, as called by King Meteg Trophar.
Assembled were threehundred and thirty four priests of Midhras, all twenty eight archpriets, and three of the four Eldest. The meeting was opened by King Meteg Trophar, who tor his royal clothes as a token of mourning for the loss of the three Eldest who had left to confront the Unnamed Terror of the Mourning Mountains, and who had not returned. The Mourning Ceremonies lasted for an entire morning, and all details were observed as stipulated in the Fourth Book of Midhras.
On the second day the archpriests Durinton, Biayae and Borningon entered their names on the List of Candidates. No objections were made, and they were given three days to prepare for their examinations.
On the fifth day the examinations started, and these lasted five days. Meanwhile three priests were elected from those who had already passed the examination for arch priest, but had not held office because the number of arch priests was complete and all offices filled. Seven priests were proposed, three from the marks of peace, and two each from the marks of justice and the marks of loyalty. The mark of pureness had one candidate, but he was not present, so he was declared not eligible. This greatly angered the priests from the mark of pureness, and the meeting was held up for several days while the examinations lasted, in order that the three new Eldest might give their opinion and advice, assuming they would pass the exams.
This they all three did, but to the regret of the priests of the mark of pureness they agreed with the decisions taken, and there was much talk among the priests of the mark of pureness about leaving the council, but King Meteg Trophar himself requested them to remain, and to not let their emotions block the entire meeting, and thus perhaps spoil common interests at stake much larger than regional differences. He made no promises, but held before them two ways to the future, one of internal strife end demise, and one of common vision and courage.
These words soothed the angered feelings, and finally three priests were choosen, one each of the three marks who had presented candidates.
Next came the three new Eldest. First Durinton came forth, and he sang a song of joy, and the hearts of all those present was lifted up, and peace flowed into their hearts, and they forgot their quarrels.
The knowledge of Midhras
secrets is the longing of my heart,
the knowledge of Midhras
is not in his temples, not in buildings
you cannot find it in
the cities, nor on the battlefields.
You can not find it in
the armoury, nor in the halls of the guilds
but his joys will have
the plots of Sniff will thwart
There was not much appreciation for this song, some thought it not a song but rhiming as any child may produce, and some thought he was not worthy to be called an Eldest, but the Council accepted him despite his song.
Next Biayae came out, and he sang a song of healing:
Deep are the cuts and
wounds of an orcish sword
Deeper is the pain of
evil done, and conciousness hurt
Deeper is the healing
worked by Midhras cures,
Deeper is the healing,
worked by words unheard.
[wizards and rogues reading this have now learned a third level spell healing sword wounds at 1 strength point for 2 con points. This spell works only on non poisoned sword and dagger wounds, not on diseases, and not on spear or arrow wounds.]
To the amazement
of all present he sang a second song:
Deep are the cuts and
wounds of poisoned cuts
Deeper is the pain inside,
rememberance of failing guts
Deeper is the healing
worked by Midhras cures,
Deeper is the healing,
worked by songs of words.
[wizards and rogues reading
this have now learned a fourth level spell undoing non magical poison effects
at 1 strength point for 2 con points.]
Lastly Borningon came out, and he showed signs of great wonder, and was declared one of the Eldest, but he did not sing a song, because as he declared, there would be much mourning, and not only the mountains would weep, but also the hills. The King Meteg Trophar was disturbed at these words, and ill disposed, and he held the bed for several weeks, and the council was held without him.
The priest Morgoniston suggested
that the Shadow of the Mountains, also called the Hidden Foe, and often
named the Wizard King, be challenged to a wizard duel by one of the Eldest
priests, but the meeting rejected this, as the fate of Dirnenquetal, Taras-Tani
and Turionual, the three Eldest who had gone out to defeat the Wizard King,
was still unknown.
Durinton, and Brishavington,
and several arch priests of the mark of pureness would search out what
had become of the three Eldest who had disappeared when seeking out the
Terror of the Mountains. Thus was decided, and thus the meeting ended,
as I, Brga, clerk of the Council, have the hounour and privilige of writing
down.
