Baron's soldier

This is a Tunnels and Trolls adventure in the Castle Calahony series.

The orcish village in the opposing mountain subjects to the rule of King Meteg Amma. The Baron keeps up the army for 3 more weeks, giving you 21 evenings to:

To the surprise of many, the Baron announces that the campaign is over.
"For the first time in many ages," he declares before the assembled army, "Civility has regained some of its lawfull territories from barbariandom. Thanks to you, people in the barony, and I may say, in the earldom and the kingdom will have a safer life. The high priest of the snake god, whose name we shall not mention, who has terrified labourers and courts alike, did not dare to come out and stand up to your valour. Your deeds will be remembered by generations after you! From now on, you will righly be able to boast: 'I was one of Baron Brnzwck´s two thousands!' You are all heroes!". A large hurray sounds from the crowd.

You may now leave the army. If you do so, return all equipment you did not buy (with the exception of weapons which you had enchanted at the cost of permanent strength). You may sell any second hand equipment to the minotaurs at the prices mentioned before. You receive one silver piece for each of the five weeks that you have been enlisted. (Decurions receive 2 SP a week, sub decurion 15 copper pieces).

Your soldiers also receive an extra 1.000 adventure points. You leave the mountains safely, and are free to adventure elsewhere. The  Baron's words are not wholly void. Having taken part in this legendary campaign raises your charisma with 1 (If you are a monster with a negative charisma, subtract 1).

There are many whispers about why the Baron has declared the campaign ended. Many old hands expect a counter attack, either from the Wizard King or from the High Priest of Sniff the snake god. Some whisper that the Baron has secret information and that this counter attack has been delayed until next spring. Others whisper that Earl Erlang is secretly assembling an army, and will take over from the Baron. And then there are those who say the the priests of Midhras are preparing a stroke against the Sniff cult.

The Baron does maintain a slightly smaller standing army, and you may enlist for a year. If you enlist for a year, roll 1 die. If you roll 5 or 6, you are killed. If you roll a 4, you are maimed, and miss 1 hand (your sword hand).

If you survive:

If you survive unmaimed, you may enlist for another year, and repeat this again, as often as you like.

Anyway, be sure to read the epilogue.
