THE MURREN MOORS

This is a Tunnels and Trolls adventure in the Castle Calahony series.

You quickly become friends with captain Just, chief of the castle guards. He bores you with a joke:

A knight had to send a volunteer on a certain death mission. Volunteers had to apply at the castle clerc.

The first applicant, a fighter, was asked how much he wanted to be paid for going. "One thousand gold pieces," he answered, "because I want to donate it to the orphan house in my native town."

The next applicant, a wizard, was asked the same question. He asked for two thousand gold pieces. "I want to give one thousand to my family," he explained, "and leave the other thousand for the advancement of the wizard guild."

The last applicant was a rogue. When asked how much money he wanted, he whispered in the interviewer's ear, "Three thousand gold pieces."

"Why so much more than the others?" the clerc asked.

The rogue replied, "If you give me 3.000 GP, I'll give you 1.000 GP, I'll keep 1.000 GP, and we'll send the fighter."

Bored, go to bed.
